Kolkata is set to witness extensive traffic regulations as the city gears up for Ram Navami celebrations on March 26 and 27. The Kolkata Police has issued a detailed advisory to ensure smooth movement of religious processions and maintain public order during the two-day event.

According to officials, vehicular movement across key routes will be regulated, diverted, or restricted depending on real-time conditions. Traffic personnel will actively monitor the situation and implement diversions across both arterial and feeder roads where necessary.

A major highlight of the advisory is the restriction on goods vehicles. The movement of such vehicles will remain prohibited from 12 noon to midnight on March 26, and from 6 am to 8 pm on March 27.

However, essential services have been kept outside the ambit of these restrictions. Vehicles carrying medical supplies, oxygen, milk, LPG, petroleum products, and perishable goods such as vegetables, fish, and fruits will be allowed to operate to avoid disruption of daily life.

The traffic curbs come in view of multiple Ram Navami processions planned across Kolkata, including major rallies expected in areas like Bhabanipur and Burrabazar. Authorities anticipate heavy footfall and congestion along these routes, prompting proactive measures to ensure safety and order.

Officials emphasized that these regulations are being enforced under relevant provisions of traffic and police laws to prevent chaos and ensure peaceful celebrations. Commuters are advised to plan their travel in advance and avoid key procession routes during peak hours.

With heightened security deployment and coordinated traffic control, Kolkata Police aims to strike a balance between festive enthusiasm and civic convenience.
