The second edition of Mirzapur (Kolkata) Jagaddhatri Puja, organised by the Mirzapur Jagaddhatri Puja Committee, was inaugurated today in a grand and vibrant ceremony. The auspicious event was graced by Sri Biman Bandopadhyay, Hon’ble Speaker of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, along with Pradip Kar, Chief Organiser of the committee, Debasish Dutta, Secretary of Mohun Bagan Club, and Shantanu Dutta, Joint Secretary of the club.
This year’s theme “Maa” (The Mother) beautifully captures the essence of motherhood, compassion, and divine love through artistic installations and intricate lighting designs.
During the inauguration, Sri Biman Bandopadhyay lauded the committee’s efforts, saying,
“The Mirzapur Jagaddhatri Puja Committee has organised a wonderful festival dedicated to the Mother Goddess. Such initiatives that spread positive social messages are truly commendable.”
Speaking on the ongoing State Identification Register (SIR) issue, he further commented,
“It feels as if a war is going on over this matter. West Bengal has seen several elections before, and people have always participated peacefully. But now, an atmosphere of fear and confusion is being created, which is not right. On one hand, voter lists are being seized, and on the other, people are being asked to provide part and serial numbers in Form 2 this is simply unrealistic.”
Meanwhile, the committee’s Chief Organiser Pradip Kar shared,
“Compared to our first year, this time we’ve tried to make the celebration even more grand and meaningful. Our theme this year is ‘Maa’. However, our vision goes beyond the festival; we wish to continue serving the community through various social welfare activities throughout the year.”
The inauguration evening witnessed a mesmerizing blend of devotion, lights, and culture. Locals and visitors from across Kolkata gathered to celebrate the spirit of Jagaddhatri, transforming Mirzapur into a hub of joy and spirituality.
The Mirzapur Jagaddhatri Puja has now transcended the boundaries of a neighbourhood event, emerging as a symbol of unity, creativity, and compassion, echoing one powerful message:
“The strength of the Mother is the strength of society.”
