The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday confirmed that 2,790 Indian nationals have been deported from the United States in 2025 for illegally residing there. All deportations were carried out after verification of nationality, said MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal during a press briefing in New Delhi.
According to the MEA, each case was individually verified through proper documentation and cross-checking with U.S. authorities before repatriation. “We verified their credentials and nationality before they returned to India,” Jaiswal stated.
Official data from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reveals a 62% drop in illegal border crossings by Indians into the U.S. during the current fiscal year. Between October 2024 and September 2025, 34,146 Indian nationals were detained, compared to 90,415 in the previous period — marking the steepest decline in four years.
Officials attribute the decline to stricter U.S. border enforcement, growing awareness in Indian migration-prone regions, and a clampdown on human smuggling networks operating between India and Latin America.
The MEA further disclosed that about 100 Indian nationals have also been deported from the United Kingdom this year after nationality verification.
The government urged citizens to use legal migration routes and avoid being misled by illegal travel agents promising U.S. entry via unsafe routes.
