ICC Chairman unveils new roadmap for international and domestic cricket development in 2025.

By Veritas Times Sports Desk | November 2025
The world of cricket is witnessing a historic transformation. From the ICC World Cup to the Women’s Premier League (WPL), and even the upcoming T20 Asia Championship, the International Cricket Council (ICC) and Board of Cricket Association (BCI) are jointly focusing on developing cricket at every level, from grassroots to global competitions.
The Future of Cricket: One Day, T20, and Beyond
As part of its 2025–2030 strategic plan, ICC has announced a series of structural reforms for international and domestic tournaments.
-
The One Day International (ODI) circuit is being re-evaluated for higher grade classification, with “Grade A+ Cricketers” now getting a revised pay scale under the new 80:20 financial model.
-
The T20 Championship 2025, scheduled before the Los Angeles Olympic performance program, will follow a hybrid format to ensure participation from top-performing cricket nations.
These changes are being seen as a step toward ensuring greater financial balance and fitness-based selections, especially in under-15 and under-19 tournaments.
Rise of Women’s Cricket: WPL and Senior Women’s Trophy
Women’s cricket continues to break barriers. The Senior Women’s Trophy and Women’s Premier League (WPL) have seen record participation this year. WPL franchises have invested heavily in performance analytics and athlete wellness, part of the ICC’s “Cricket Performance Program 2025,” aimed at building a new generation of female cricket icons. Foreign media councils have praised India’s leadership in shaping the global women’s cricket ecosystem.
Domestic Circuits and Fitness Training Revolution
The BCI Domestic Cricket Committee has launched a comprehensive training and fitness program for junior and state-level players. The plan focuses on injury management, mental conditioning, and data-driven coaching to align with international standards. Under this initiative, players from smaller towns will have access to high-quality fitness infrastructure and match simulation facilities.
Towards a “Champion’s Hybrid Model”
In what ICC Chairman has described as the “Taste of Champions Hybrid Model,” future tournaments may blend digital analytics, AI-based match prediction, and player monitoring tools. This futuristic move is expected to redefine cricket’s competitive edge and audience engagement.
