In a major boost to India’s defence preparedness, the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has approved capital acquisition proposals worth ₹79,000 crore for the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

The approval marks one of the largest military modernisation drives in recent years, aimed at strengthening India’s combat readiness under the “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” (self-reliant India) initiative.

For the Army: The DAC has cleared procurement of the advanced Nag Missile System Mk-II, designed to destroy enemy armoured vehicles and fortified positions. The Army will also receive upgraded mobile ELINT systems and high-mobility transport platforms.

For the Navy: The green light has been given for the acquisition of Landing Platform Docks (LPDs) , amphibious warships, along with 30 mm Naval Surface Guns and lightweight torpedoes. These platforms are expected to enhance India’s maritime strike and amphibious capabilities.

For the Air Force: The council approved the Collaborative Long Range Target Saturation/Destruction System (CLRTS/DS), an autonomous system capable of long-range precision targeting in hostile environments.

According to defence analysts, this major financial push signals India’s growing emphasis on indigenous production and technology integration in critical military platforms. It also reflects the country’s determination to maintain strategic superiority amid evolving regional security challenges involving China and Pakistan.
